Progression

Primary Education is a continuum of learning usually spread over some 7 years starting at age 5 and concluding with entry to High School usually between 11 ½ and 12 ½ years of age.  Individual students have varying rates of learning and social maturity, with this variation at its widest range in the early years of schooling.  Each child is assessed in terms of achievement and maturity and when some extension of time at a particular grade level is recommended parents will be informed, and invited to discuss the most appropriate placement.

Transition programs

In Terms 3 & 4 each year transition programs are conducted for both Year 6 students progressing to Calwell High School and Preschool students commencing Kindergarten the following year.

The Year 6 program commences in Term 3 with an open day and information night at the high school.  The Year 7 Coordinator and Year 7 students from Calwell High School also visit our school to talk to Year 6 students.  Later in Term 4, Year 6 students also visit the high school for a half-day orientation program to meet teachers and prepare for the move to high school.

The preschool transition program involves both day and evening information sessions for parents in Term 3.  In Term 4 Preschool students visit the Kindergarten unit several times so as to familiarise themselves with the school in readiness for the following year.
