Physical Activity and Sport

Calwell is a founder member of the Active Australia Schools Network and students are encouraged to participate in physical activity and sport.  All classes participate in regular physical activities that vary depending on age.  These activities include a gross motor skills program, learn to swim program, fitness activities and skills development and coaching sessions in a variety of sports.

All students are placed in one of our 4 sporting ‘houses’ when they enrol, these being Pittman, Hackett, Newbury and Jackson.  The school conducts an Athletics Carnival, Cross Country Carnival and a Swimming Carnival each year.  Successful students may also go on to compete in Murrumbidgee District Carnivals and at the ACT Championships.  Students in Years 5 and 6 also have the opportunity to participate in a variety of other sports in school teams and at representative level in Murrumbidgee District and ACT teams.
