FrontCalwell Primary School is positioned on Downard Street, on the top of a hill in the suburb of Calwell, in the city of Canberra, in the Australian Capital Territory (ACT), Australia. This hilltop location provides our community members with wide views of the Brindabella mountain ranges, which border part of the ACT.

Our school opened in 1989 and is designed to accommodate up to 460 students in the four permanent Unit buildings. The four Unit buildings are structurally similar. Each building has four sub-divided classroom areas, a common 'wet area', a teachers office, a 'quiet room' area and a girls and boys toilet block.

OutsideOur school community works collaboratively to provide a quality education program for Calwell Primary students. Our teaching programs use an Outcomes based philosophy. These programs ensure that each child will develop skills in literacy, numeracy and key competencies necessary for his/her successful participation in a rapidly changing society. Children gain these skills through participating in a diverse and rich education program where each child experiments and establishes an understanding of their own individual learning style and talents.

Calwell Primary School operational policies reflect the ACT Department of Training and Children's, Youth & Family Services Bureau policy documents. Our School Policy Documents are kept in hard copy in the Front Office and parents are welcome to access them. The Department also provides access to its policies, either on their website or in hard copy.
